Weston scholarships encourage promising undergraduate researchers

Wisconsin Sea Grant is pleased to announce the three newest recipients of the Carl J. Weston Memorial Scholarship: Loretha Jack, Briana Shea and Chelsea Volpano. The scholarship recognizes talented undergraduate researchers working on Sea Grant-supported projects.

Wisconsin Clean Marina Program Granted a Boatload of Money

A program designed to reduce pollution and protect Wisconsin’s waterways was recently awarded $200,000 from the Fund for Lake Michigan. It’s the Wisconsin Clean Marina Program, which has operated since 2009. The three-year grant will allow for increased staff time and a renewed focus on encouraging more marinas and boatyards in the state to become certified.

Sailing for Science: Educators Learn on Lake Michigan

Sixteen educators from Wisconsin and Minnesota will board the tall ship Denis Sullivan to immerse themselves in Lake Michigan science next week, and will learn more about the communities along it as well as new technologies they can use in their classrooms. Free public tours of the ship are offered.

Sea Grant Announces 2019 Finalists for Knauss Fellowship Program

July 11, 2018 The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Sea Grant announce the finalists for the 2019 class of the John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship program. Since 1979, the National Sea Grant College Program has provided one-year fellowships working in federal government offices in Washington, D.C. to over 1,200 early-career professionals. Research in Real Life: Two Wisconsin Teachers to Cruise Lake Ontario

Two Wisconsin teachers will join a dozen others from around the Great Lakes on a week-long research cruise on Lake Ontario with scientists. The R/V Lake Guardian will depart from Buffalo, New York, on July 9, ending in Youngstown, New York, on July 15, with stops in ports along the way to learn about the ecology, history and economy of the lake.
