While the development of details for a full agenda will continue to be refined in coordination with the NSGO, the specific objectives of the meeting are:
- Bring together Sea Grant professionals who are involved in reporting for their program in an effort to begin to draft an Annual Reporting 101 guide with the NSGO;
- Offer a meaningful professional development opportunity for both newer Sea Grant staff and those who have contributed to reporting in the past;
- Determine efficiencies and effectiveness of reporting to help programs create more comprehensive reporting for the NSGO and within state programs;
- Discuss ways to improve upon the existing definitions and guidance to expand the overall experience for our researchers and extension staff; and
- Discuss emerging issues, for example, how best to capture Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Traditional Local Knowledge in reporting and what definitions/metrics could be used to capture these additional visioning efforts.
The anticipated outcome will be a cross-cutting network achievement that positively impacts all levels of Sea Grant reporting, with additional specific expectations of:
- Initiation of an Annual Reporting 101 guide drafted by the NSGO and the Sea Grant network to more effectively capture required elements and emerging issues, while keeping the administrative burden in balance;
- Sea Grant reporting staff sharing their knowledge with coworkers and connections throughout the Sea Grant network who did not attend the Reporting Cross-cutting Collaborative Meeting, as well as PIs and other researchers who are required to provide information for reporting;
- In coordination with the NSGO, meeting participants will recommend potential reporting metrics or mechanisms to capture different ways in which Sea Grant-funded programs address the needs of diverse communities;
- Sea Grant program staff will gain a richer understanding of the end-point applications of the reporting and will therefore be better positioned to capture and present in a concise manner deeper and more detailed impacts of Sea Grant-funding, , and report it to the NSGO;
- Sea Grant reporting staff will develop an understanding of how to capture emerging issues, for example, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Traditional Local Knowledge.
