The River Talks will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 8 with “History of the Upper Estuary and Fond du Lac Neighborhood: River History and Winter Stories,” an in-person presentation at the Lake Superior Estuarium Confluence Room (3 Marina Drive, Barker’s Island in Superior) given by Christine Carlson, historian, and Mark McConnell, an Elder with the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.

The River Talks will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, at the Lake Superior Estuarium in Superior, with “Nimaawanji’idimin Giiwitaashkodeng: Working with Fire to Heal the Land on Wisconsin and Minnesota Points,” an in-person and Zoom presentation by Evan Larson, University of Wisconsin-Platteville and Melonee Montano, Red Cliff tribal member and University of Minnesota graduate student.
The River Talks will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the Lake Superior Estuarium, with “Tell us What you Love About the River,” an in-person presentation by Molly Wick, Lake Superior Reserve Margaret A. Davidson Fellow, who will describe a study she designed to help environmental managers understand how the community benefits from local lakes, rivers and streams and how this work could help make those benefits more accessible to everyone.
On Oct. 12, the River Talks return for the season with “Wild Stories of Wildlife on the St. Louis River.”

On Wednesday, May 11, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in person at the Lake Superior Estuarium (3 Marina Dr., Superior, Wisconsin) and from 7 to 8 p.m. on Zoom, Sea Grant Director Jim Hurley will present, “Sea Grant at 50: Looking Back, Moving Forward,” examining the formation of this science-based organization devoted to the sustainable use and protection of Great Lakes resources. He’ll also discuss Sea Grant’s current work and where it is headed as it looks ahead to the next 50 years.
