The Lake Michigan Stakeholders named Julia Noordyk, Sea Grant’s water quality and coastal communities specialist, a Lake Michigan Champion of Conservation at a recent awards ceremony.
Stephanie King of Oneida, Wisconsin, is breaking new ground. Not only is she first to fill a position with Wisconsin Sea Grant designed to strengthen relationships with First Nation tribes in the Green Bay area, she is in the first cohort of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s First Nations Education Doctoral Program.
In March 2019, a massive snowmelt combined with heavy rain over frozen ground disrupted lives and flooded homes along the East River near and in Green Bay. Now, a new partnership seeks to address conditions that caused the flooding and increase community resiliency.
Updates to reduce stormwater runoff on Barker’s Island in Superior are scheduled for the next two summers.
The public is invited to an informational meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the Brown County STEM Innovation Center in Green Bay.
