Superior Coastal Cleanup Draws Mayors’ Attention

Next Wednesday, September 12, the mayors from Superior, Wisconsin, and Duluth, Minnesota, will kick off beach cleanups in the Twin Ports. Mayor Jim Paine of Superior and Mayor Emily Larson of Duluth will speak on stage at the city park on Barker’s Island in Superior early during the event, which runs from 3 to 5 p.m.

A public cleanup of Barker’s Island will follow their talks. Local organizations, including Wisconsin Sea Grant will offer information tables at the event.

These cleanups are usually done in teams, with one person marking down the kind of garbage found, and others picking up the garbage. The data is then collected by the City of Superior Environmental Services Division and sent to the Ocean Conservancy to raise awareness of the pollution problem and to guide solutions.

If you’re in the area, come on out and help clean up!
