  About Us

The University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute, headed by Dr. Anders W. Andren, professor of water chemistry, is a statewide program of basic and applied research, education and technology transfer dedicated to the stewardship and sustainable use of the nation's Great Lakes and ocean resources. Mary Lou Reeb, Education Subprogram Coordinator, leads the Madison-area JASON effort.

Based on teacher interest, UW Sea Grant hosted a network site on the UW-Madison campus from 1995 through 2006 on behalf of 4th- through 9th-grade Madison-area students and their teachers who are participating in the JASON Project curriculum.

As part of our support throughout the years for Madison JASON students and their teachers, UW Sea Grant has developed the nationally recognized Madison JASON Web site which integrates modern communications technology and multidisciplinary education. Features include a history of diving timeline together with the cool tools and gear divers use; profiles of Great Lakes fish, frogs and migratory birds; and interactive quizzes and activities. (See Featured Topics) Also highlighted are student art and study projects (including exciting student stories, poems, and the teachers' own notes on how they did these creative projects) developed as part of the JASON Project curriculum.
