Information about Fish

Thinking about raising your own fish for profit?  We get many questions from people who want to raise perch, trout, and other fish.  Visit our page on Aquaculture.

Can you tell the different trouts and salmons apart?  Here are identification tips and an interactive system to help you identify a particular fish.

If you're curious about the different parts of a fish's body or if you need to know what, for example, "branchiostegal rays" are, take a look at the Anatomy and Glossary pages.

Some exotic invaders, or species that aren't native to the Great Lakes, have caused great harm to native species. Others haven't caused as much trouble. You may be surprised to find out who is native and who isn't. For more information about aquatic invaders (not just fish), take a look at our Nonindigenous Species page.
