Wilson’s Snipe — Migration

Summer Range: Wilson’s Snipes’ North American breeding range extends across Canada and Alaska, south from the tundra to the northern third of the United States. In spring, male snipes arrive on breeding grounds from late March to early April, about 10 days prior to females’ arrival.

Winter Range: In late summer, snipes become more gregarious, congregating in wetlands and ponds starting in September; migration lasts through November. Adult snipes return to traditional wintering areas, which span the central United States south through Central America to Colombia and Venezuela.
