Size: 7-8 in.

Wing span: 15-16 in.

Weight: 1.2-1.8 ounces

Color: Breeding adults have a gray-brown back and wings, with a dark tail and rump. The underparts are white with distinct dark round spots. Legs are flesh-colored, and the medium-sized bill is yellow and orange, and tipped with black. A white stripe along the wing is visible while the bird is in flight. The sexes are alike in plumage, but females are larger and have larger spots extending farther down the lower belly.
