Osprey — Habitat

Ospreys are found worldwide wherever there are rivers, bays, lakes or seacoasts; this makes the Great Lakes region good habitat for this water-loving bird. For feeding, ospreys require expanses of clear, preferable shallow waters, and for nesting the birds favor forested or swampy sites near open water. Ospreys feed almost exclusively on fish of all kinds, but occasionally will take small rodents and birds.
