Northern Harrier, Circus cyaneus

Though many people may consider eagles or ospreys to be the most fearsome aerial predators, Britain’s Royal Air Force chose to name its highly maneuverable fighter aircraft after the Northern Harrier. An efficient hunter, the Harrier’s name derives from the 16th century English word “harien,” which means “to pillage and torment.”
