Killdeer, Charadrius vociferus

A widespread and familiar wading shorebird, the Killdeer is common along shorelines as well as in farmyards and fields. Although many species of birds protect their nests by pretend to have a broken wing to lure predators away, the Killdeer is the bird most often seen performing this distraction display.
