Green Heron, Butorides virescens

A small wading bird about the size of a crow, the Green Heron is common in watery habitats across much of North America. This bird can be difficult to see, however, because it spends a good deal of time standing motionless amid dense waterfront vegetation, waiting for prey to approach within striking range.
