Belted Kingfisher — Field ID

Size:  11"-14"

Wing span: 19"-23"

Weight:  0.8—18 ounces

Color:  The Belted Kingfisher sports blue-gray plumage, with a white collar circling the throat and dividing the head from a dark chest band and white belly beneath. Females show a rusty red chest band beneath the upper dark one. Its tail is rather short, bluish on top and barred black-and-white on the sides and underneath. A white spot in front of each eye is conspicuously displayed when the bird is alarmed.
