Least Bittern ó Field ID

Size: 11"-14"

Wing span: 16"-18"

Weight: 1.8-3.6 ounces

Color: The Least Bitternís crown and back are black or dark brown and striped with white along the sides. The birdís neck and sides are orange-brown, and the front of the neck and chest are striped orange and white. Golden patches on the wings are visible in flight. The birdís bill is yellow with a dark upper edge, its eyes are pale yellow, and its legs are pink at the top, green in front and yellow behind. The sexes look similar, but females have more muted colors. Immature birds are similar to adult females, but feature a paler and browner crown.
