Green Heron Great Lakes Habitat

For both breeding and hunting, the Green Heron prefers marshes, swamps, lakes and streams with dense shoreline or emergent vegetation. The birds usually stick to the shoreline, seldom wading in water deeper than four inches. The Green Heron mainly eats small fish, but will take frogs, tadpoles, crayfish, small rodents, snakes, snails and worms.
