Color: The Great Blue Heron has a white head and neck feathers, a blue-gray back and wing plumage, cinnamon-colored neck plumes draping over the breast, and chestnut-colored thighs. A black eye stripe extends into a black, swept-back plume or crest in breeding adults. The bird’s eyes are golden-yellow, and its heavy spearlike bill is yellow. Males and females look alike.
