Common Tern — Great Lakes Habitat

Primarily birds of the ocean coasts, Common Terns also make their homes inland on large freshwater lakes such as the Great Lakes. Vital components of the birds’ habitat include bare sandy or gravelly beaches along islands or peninsulas for nesting, clear water for feeding, an abundant supply of fish, and freedom from human intrusion or disturbance.
