Common Merganser — Water Connection, page 3

• As fish eaters, merganser groups of 5 to 20 birds exhibit cooperative feeding behaviors; sometimes they will line up and splash their wings together, driving schools of fish into pools or shallows for easier feeding.

• The name “merganser” originates from the Latin words merger (“to dive”) and anser (“goose”).
