Common Merganser — Description

The Common Merganser is a frequently seen summer resident around the Great Lakes region, nesting on lakes and rivers in forested areas. The breeding male’s iridescent green head and bright white breast and belly are eye-catching. In flight, the birds move swiftly with shallow wingbeats, usually traveling in single file and low over the water.
