Expanding Cattails and Shrinking Sedge Meadows: Reversible?

Biologically diverse sedge meadows in Great Lakes coastal wetlands are being overrun by aggressive invasions of hybrid cattails. This project is evaluating the resilience of sedge meadows to this invasion and developing options for protecting and restoring these plant communities. This continuing effort complements that of other projects in this high-priority theme area and also addresses a cross-cutting Wisconsin priority in Sea Grant’s Ecosystems & Habitats Theme of research for deterring, eradicating and/or controlling invasive species.
