Each February, 25 Wisconsin high school teams compete in a head-to-head competition on all aspects of oceanography and marine science.
The daylong competition is held at UW-Milwaukee. Teams compete for a variety of prizes, including field trips and classroom resources, and the first-place team receives an expense-paid trip to compete against 24 other winning teams from across the country at the National Ocean Sciences Bowl. The competition has definitely increased the level of ocean literacy in Wisconsin schools. In 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, Wisconsin produced the national champions.
Wisconsin Sea Grant provides financial and volunteer support for the event. To get further details, visit the UW-Milwaukee School of Freshwater Sciences.
