Control Measures
From June 28, 1990 (update #2)
George Ayers, director of the city water and sewer utility for Galion, Ohio, reports the city three months ago passed an ordinance prohibiting the use of three city water supply reservoirs by recreational boaters. To appease anglers, he said, Galion is considering allowing boat access to one reservoir as long as the boat in question is confined to use on that reservoir at all times. The city of Bucyrus, Ohio, has passed a similar ordinance eliminating boating on its two water supply reservoirs, Ayers said. Galion and Bucyrus are about 50 miles from Lake Erie.

The Zebra Mussel Update was a 4- to 8-page quarterly national newsletter published by the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute from May 1990 through May 1997. The ZMU documented the spread of the zebra mussel -- an exotic nuisance mussel -- through North America's freshwater environments, especially the Great Lakes, and on efforts to control it.
