Computer Bulletin Board Set Up

From June 28, 1990 (update #2)

An computer bulletin board on zebra mussels has been established by the Water and Wastewater Network, cosponsored by the Michigan Section of the American Water Works Association and the Michigan Water Pollution Control Association. This board is provided free of charge and is operated in part by John DeKam of the Bay Metro Water Treatment Plant in Bay City, Mich. Many items of interest are being made available through messages left on this bulletin board. If you have a computer, modem and communications software, you can read these messages or communicate with others who have similar interests in zebra mussels by dialing: (517) 686-4055. Once connected to the bulletin board, join the zebra mussel conference (selection #8) and check out the mussel messages.

The Zebra Mussel Update was a 4- to 8-page quarterly national newsletter published by the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute from May 1990 through May 1997. The ZMU documented the spread of the zebra mussel -- an exotic nuisance mussel -- through North America's freshwater environments, especially the Great Lakes, and on efforts to control it.
