Editor's Note

From June 28, 1990 (update #2)

To date, Zebra Mussel Watch personnel have analyzed samples from 28 water intakes and 40 harbor vertical plankton tows from Wisconsin waters of Lakes Michigan and Superior. Despite a couple of suspicious samples, the presence of zebra mussel veligers (its larval form) has not been confirmed at any location, nor have any settled zebra mussels been found on substrate samples collected from eight locations weekly since late May.

The Zebra Mussel Update was a 4- to 8-page quarterly national newsletter published by the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute from May 1990 through May 1997. The ZMU documented the spread of the zebra mussel -- an exotic nuisance mussel -- through North America's freshwater environments, especially the Great Lakes, and on efforts to control it.
