Zebra Mussel Field ID Cards Available
From January 31, 1991 (update #6)
Wallet-size zebra mussel field identification cards will soon be available from Great Lakes Sea Grant programs and cooperating industries, special interest organizations and government agencies throughout the region. The cards briefly describe the zebra mussel's distinguishing traits and what to do if you find one. The cover of the card features a full-color, life- size photo of a single mussel and of a cluster of mussels. The cards are being produced by Wisconsin Sea Grant in cooperation with the Great Lakes Sea Grant Network, which also includes the Illinois-Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York and Ohio Sea Grant programs. For more information, contact Wisconsin Sea Grant Communications Coordinator Stephen Wittman, (608) 263-3259, or state Sea Grant Communications offices at the University of Illinois (Urbana), University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), University of Minnesota (St. Paul), State University of New York (Stony Brook) or The Ohio State University (Columbus).

The Zebra Mussel Update was a 4- to 8-page quarterly national newsletter published by the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute from May 1990 through May 1997. The ZMU documented the spread of the zebra mussel -- an exotic nuisance mussel -- through North America's freshwater environments, especially the Great Lakes, and on efforts to control it.
