New Sightings in Wisconsin

From January 31, 1991 (update #6)

SHEBOYGAN A single half-inch-long zebra mussel was found on a pump housing at Wisconsin Power & Light's Edgewater Generating Station here in late November, according to station production engineer Dan Everson. This is the same facility at which two zebra mussels were found Oct. 16 attached to a water intake screen frame.

STURGEON BAY Zebra mussels were found in several sea chests of the U.S. Steel ore carrier Edgar B. Speer while under inspection in mid-October, according to a U.S. Coast Guard inspector.

ID: 19910131-2.

The Zebra Mussel Update was a 4- to 8-page quarterly national newsletter published by the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute from May 1990 through May 1997. The ZMU documented the spread of the zebra mussel -- an exotic nuisance mussel -- through North America's freshwater environments, especially the Great Lakes, and on efforts to control it.
