Editor's Note
From April 30, 1991 (update #7)
The first major wave of the zebra mussel invasion hit the Wisconsin shores of Lake Michigan during April, with new sightings reported at Racine, Kewaunee and Sturgeon Bay the last three weekends. This was quite an exciting start for the 1991 Wisconsin Sea Grant Zebra Mussel Watch. This season will continue to teach important lessons regarding the zebra mussel's spread in Lakes Michigan and Superior, so hang on - this will be a big one! We plan to send you monthly updates this year in hopes of keeping up with the latest sightings, control efforts and research on this spreading threat to drinking water supplies, power production and water-dependent industries throughout central North America.

The Zebra Mussel Update was a 4- to 8-page quarterly national newsletter published by the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute from May 1990 through May 1997. The ZMU documented the spread of the zebra mussel -- an exotic nuisance mussel -- through North America's freshwater environments, especially the Great Lakes, and on efforts to control it.
