Sampling for the 1991 Wisconsin Zebra Mussel Watch begins this month. Sites slated for biweekly sampling include 16 municipal water utilities, 9 power plants, 3 industrial intakes and 25 harbor stations along the shores of Lakes Michigan, Superior and Winnebago. More frequent monitoring will take place at 11 of these intakes by plant personnel or private consultants. During the preceding three months, UW Sea Grant Advisory Services conducted 25 workshops on zebra mussel identification for Wisconsin industrial, municipal water intake and power plant personnel.

The Zebra Mussel Update was a 4- to 8-page quarterly national newsletter published by the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute from May 1990 through May 1997. The ZMU documented the spread of the zebra mussel -- an exotic nuisance mussel -- through North America's freshwater environments, especially the Great Lakes, and on efforts to control it.
