Someone WANTS Zebra Mussels

From September 10, 1991 (update #10)

OTTAWA, Ont. -- A study of the genetic make-up of zebra mussels at the leading edge of their invasion is being conducted by Ryan Brinkman of Carleton University. Beginning in mid-September, Brinkman plans to use a technique known as "allozyme electrophoresis" to analyze zebra mussel tissue samples. He said he can provide reimbursement for transportation charges. If you are interested in providing specimens for analysis, please call him at (613) 230-0081.

The Zebra Mussel Update was a 4- to 8-page quarterly national newsletter published by the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute from May 1990 through May 1997. The ZMU documented the spread of the zebra mussel -- an exotic nuisance mussel -- through North America's freshwater environments, especially the Great Lakes, and on efforts to control it.
