Mississippi Watch Coordinator Named
From October 11, 1991 (update #11)
LA CROSSE - The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has put Mississippi River Fisheries Supervisor Ron Benjamin in charge of coordinating zebra mussel watch information for Wisconsin waters of that drainage system. Benjamin reports that prior to the confirmed sighting of a single mussel in La Crosse on Sept. 12, several unconfirmed reports of zebra mussel sightings had been made by several of the 290 Wisconsin-licensed commercial clammers on the river. Anyone with additional inland sightings should contact Benjamin at (608) 785-9012.
ID: 19911011-8.
The Zebra Mussel Update was a 4- to 8-page quarterly national newsletter published by the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute from May 1990 through May 1997. The ZMU documented the spread of the zebra mussel -- an exotic nuisance mussel -- through North America's freshwater environments, especially the Great Lakes, and on efforts to control it.
