
Future International Zebra Mussel Conferences

TORONTO, Ont. - The Third International Zebra Mussel Conference is planned for Feb. 23-26, 1993, at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto. Conference cosponsors include the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Ontario Hydro, Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the Great Lakes Sea Grant Network and Electric Power Research Institute. Several previous sponsors of similar conferences have agreed to jointly sponsor future annual gatherings of zebra mussel researchers and control experts. The fourth international conference is scheduled to be held March 13- 17, 1994, in Madison, Wis.

The Zebra Mussel Update was a 4- to 8-page quarterly national newsletter published by the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute from May 1990 through May 1997. The ZMU documented the spread of the zebra mussel -- an exotic nuisance mussel -- through North America's freshwater environments, especially the Great Lakes, and on efforts to control it.
