
Toronto to Host 3rd International Zebra Mussel Conference

TORONTO, Ont. - Abstracts have been received for the Third International Zebra Mussel Conference to be held Feb. 23-26, 1993, at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto. This will be the only major zebra mussel conference held during 1993. The schedule for the 1993 conference tentatively includes 76 oral presentations, 40 poster presentations and 40 trade show exhibitors, according to Allen H. Miller, University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Assistant Director for Advisory Services. Conference cosponsors include the Great Lakes Sea Grant Network, Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Ontario Hydro, Department of Fisheries & Oceans-Canada and the Electric Power Research Institute. The Zebra Mussel Update was a 4- to 8-page quarterly national newsletter published by the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute from May 1990 through May 1997. The ZMU documented the spread of the zebra mussel -- an exotic nuisance mussel -- through North America's freshwater environments, especially the Great Lakes, and on efforts to control it.
