Thank You for Your Support!

From March 23, 1993 (Update #16)

Affected state industries and other private sources contributed more than $38,000 during 1992 to support the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute's statewide Zebra Mussel Watch project. Such supplemental funding has become crucial as the spread of zebra mussels to other states has decreased the amount of federal dollars available for zebra mussel outreach. These contributions enabled UW Sea Grant to not only maintain its coastal water intake and substrate sampling program on Lakes Michigan and Superior, but to expand the sampling program to include the lower Fox River and Lake Winnebago. The additional funds also helped UW Sea Grant continue its statewide public education efforts, which include this newsletter, public service announcements for radio and television, fact sheets and "Zebra Mussel Watch" cards. The UW Sea Grant Institute gratefully acknowledges the contributions of:

* Fort Howard Paper Company, Green Bay * Lands' End, Dodgeville * Wisconsin Electric Power Company, Milwaukee * Wisconsin Power & Light Company, Madison * Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, Green Bay * Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company, Wausau

We couldn't do it without you - thanks!.

The Zebra Mussel Update was a 4- to 8-page quarterly national newsletter published by the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute from May 1990 through May 1997. The ZMU documented the spread of the zebra mussel -- an exotic nuisance mussel -- through North America's freshwater environments, especially the Great Lakes, and on efforts to control it.
