Editor's Note
From March 23, 1993 (Update #16)
As we enter our fourth season, we are reassessing the goals of the Wisconsin Zebra Mussel Watch, including this year's series of Zebra Mussel Updates. The first 15 issues of the ZMU attracted an international regional audience, who undoubtedly shared concerns similar to Wisconsin water users. Consequently, we have regularly included relevant information about sightings and zebra mussel- related activities far beyond Wisconsin. However, the rapid infestation of commercial waterways throughout eastern North America has produced a proliferation of agencies and individuals who are addressing specific geographical areas and associated problems. As a result, we plan to restrict the scope of the ZMU to focus more on the information needs of Wisconsin water users and to pare down the ZMU mailing list accordingly. If you would like to remain on the ZMU mailing list, please take a few moments to complete and return the enclosed readership survey.

The Zebra Mussel Update was a 4- to 8-page quarterly national newsletter published by the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute from May 1990 through May 1997. The ZMU documented the spread of the zebra mussel -- an exotic nuisance mussel -- through North America's freshwater environments, especially the Great Lakes, and on efforts to control it.
