First NAFTA, Now NaZMA
From March 7, 1994 (update #20)
ARLINGTON, Va. - You've heard of NAFTA. Now there's NaZMA, which stands for the National Zebra Mussel Alliance. The non-profit corporation came into being this January.
The primary goal of the alliance, according to NaZMA president Robert W. Davis, is "to increase congressional funding for zebra mussel research and control, and to ensure that grants for state management programs are funded. NaZMA will also aggressively seek new appropriations via congressional earmarks for hi- tech mussel control techniques."
For more information contact NaZMA staffers Jeffrey Surrell or Brian Swift at (703) 415-3032, 2361 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Suite 506, Arlington, VA 22202.

The Zebra Mussel Update was a 4- to 8-page quarterly national newsletter published by the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute from May 1990 through May 1997. The ZMU documented the spread of the zebra mussel -- an exotic nuisance mussel -- through North America's freshwater environments, especially the Great Lakes, and on efforts to control it.
