Zebra Mussels Make Top Ten List of Worldwide Trends
From January, 1996 (Update #26)
A Worldwatch Institute mail solicitation recently identified "Ten Key Findings" from the State of the World 1996, including the following: "Economic costs of the introduction of exotic species such as the Zebra mussel [sic] in the U.S. Great Lakes are adding up to billions of dollars each year, and will likely increase, creating a drag on the region's economy.".
ID: 199601-9.
The Zebra Mussel Update was a 4- to 8-page quarterly national newsletter published by the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute from May 1990 through May 1997. The ZMU documented the spread of the zebra mussel -- an exotic nuisance mussel -- through North America's freshwater environments, especially the Great Lakes, and on efforts to control it.
